stop/motion is a limited-edition series of digital photographs, consisting of nine images of the infamous Drake Passage.
Dividing South America from Antarctica, this stretch of ocean is notoriously rough, empty, and silent. Other than the other passengers on my small ship, I was completely alone: except for the 12-foot waves, fearless seabirds, and my thoughts.
The collection - showing at the Astreya gallery - explores the concept of time by focusing on one moment: the sunset.

I knew early on that I wanted this collection to explore the essence of water. For me, being near water brings me great inner peace and calm - and as someone who grew up in Florida and now lives in California, it’s always been the backbone of my life. Great moments of happiness have been celebrated near the water, and in times of deep sadness, the water always carried me through.
As I looked through my digital photographs, I ultimately decided on these 9 images for their experimental & impressionistic quality, and to honor the ocean that has cradled me.
I searched for many weeks for the best paper, ink, and printer to create museum-grade prints that matched my artistic vision - creating many test proofs along the way before ultimately deciding on the best quality and most vibrant colors.
Each print is created with giclée ink on Epson cold press paper - and will therefore stand the test of time.
These limited-edition prints range in size from 12 x 16 inches to 24 x 36 inches, and are signed, numbered, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. All photographs are printed to order and prepared in the Astreya studio with care.

You can now own a piece of stop/motion history: a museum-grade 9x12 print of the very first test proof created during my artistic process.
Named "Sea and Sky," this print consists of two images:
Left: A study of Mystic, one of the 24x36 limited-edition prints within the stop/motion series
Right: An image of an albatross silhouetted against the sinking Antarctic sun, which is not anywhere else in the series.
Representing areas of highest contrast between dark and light, these two images were selected by the artist to test the saturation range of the paper and ink.
At a standard size - and with the addition of a large white border that eliminates the need for matting - "Sea and Sky" has a sleek, modern look in any off-the-shelf frame. Signed by the artist and printed with the same high-quality materials as the limited-edition works, this open-edition print will last for years to come.
